Beer Bread

Ingredients

  • Vegetable shortening, for pan
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 (12-ounce) bottle or can regular or nonalcoholic beer
  • 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter, melted

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease the bottom of a 9x5-inch loaf pan with shortening. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir in beer and butter. Transfer to prepared pan. Bake until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean, 45 to 50 minutes. Cool in pan 10 minutes before removing to a wire rack. Serve warm or cooled. Makes 16 servings.
